He attended McGill University before obtaining his medical diploma at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica. As a Commonwealth Scholar, he trained in internal medicine and gastroenterology at the University of Bristol. He is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians of London and the American College of Gastroenterology. He serves as the historian of the Medical Association of The Bahamas and writes on local medical history. He is also a guitarist and an avid aircraft pilot.
